google glitch

Google fixes the glitch in their system that allowed bad press and comments propel a sight to high rankings. Websites ranks higher in Google when there are performing well and if there are positive comments about their site and about their business. But because of the glitch, those who had bad reviews and bad customer service got high ranks instead.

Now Google has fixed the glitch and their system is back up and running as it should. What happened was that the glitch was realized when a website that was full of negative comments rose dramatically in the rankings because of all the negative talks that has been going around because of their lousy service. A lot of people complained and discussed it online further fueling its steady rise in the Google rankings.

Google has clarified that wrongdoings will not be and should not be glorified through high rankings on their search engine. Apparently, the owner of the website that was being complained about used the negative comments to his advantage by making every comment push his website higher on the Google ranking.

Because of the popularity that this website gained, Google Fellow Amit Sinhal said in his blog that they are horrified that this happened. What Google wants is to help good websites rise higher in the rankings by getting positive feedback and now that this has happened, they have fixed their system already. Google remains optimistic that they have plugged this specific hole already but they know that somebody somewhere might find a loophole in the system. And when that happens they will be prepared.

Yes. I read a similar article in a newspaper site regarding this issue wherein a seller used negative reviews to get his Google Places listing rank higher on Google results.

Only positive reviews should have been considered by Google and now they have fixed this issue because this could be abused by other site owners / webmasters.

I have seen a lot of companies with negative press from the BBC and Guardian online (high authority sites) that used the press to their advantage to be placed higher on the SERPS. When life hands you a lemon as they say…
