The year 2010 is about to end but the Filipinos continue to shine in the limelight of the different stages in the world. After Charice and Manny Pacquiao, another artist from the Philippines has been given the distinct honor of making creating the Nativity Scene in the Vatican.

The seat of the Catholic faith is considered a holy place for Catholics from all over the world and a Filipino has been given the privilege of using his hands to show the Nativity Scene at the Vatican for Christmas. The pride of Davao City, Kublai Millan, is now indeed going places as he showcases his talent for the whole world to see.

Friday, December 24, the world was the witness in the unveiling of the Nativity scene on St. Peter’s Square. Kublai did a magnificent re-creation of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with nine Filipino statues adorned with the lively colors of the native dresses of Filipinos. Some of the statues were depicted as playing musical instruments all representing the many indigenous groups that are found in the Philippines.

Kublai’s creations are the first pieces of art that are not made from the people of Italy. He is the first Filipino to be given the honor of making the Nativity scene and he is also the first non-Italian artist whose creations are displayed at the St. Peter’s Square.

This artist from Davao really made the whole country proud by bringing with him to the Vatican the atmosphere of how happy the Filipino Christmas is as is depicted in the sculpture that he did at St. Peter’s Square. The celebration of Christmas in the Philippines begins on September 1 and slowly increases in intensity as December 25 approaches and even lasts until the beginning of the next year.
